Because ethnicity is part of the good of creation, we seek to honor and celebrate the ethnic identity of those with whom we serve as well as those we seek to reach.
Students are experiencing more anxieties, fears I like to think of the difference between Christianity and religion as the difference between do vs. Religion is about what we can do for God to be good enough to get into heaven. Christianity is about what God has been done for us. God did for us what 1h axe bwl could have never done for ourselves. When we do that, He adopts us into his family, and begins to change us from the inside out.
This is a classic illustration we use all the time to clarify substitutionary atonement. The crucial idea is that God is both just and loving. Those two attributes would seem to be in conflict when it comes to dealing with sinful people. But at the cross they each reach their fullest expression without compromise.
They impound your car, and bring you straight to the courthouse to face the judge. Well the good news is that the county you got busted in just happens to be the county in which your dad is the judge.
But just as you are entering the courthouse, you remember that your dad is a really good judge. He never punishes the inno- cent. He always punishes the guilty. He is a good and just judge. Which is going to win out, his love or his justice. Let me walk you through a scenario that shows how he might solve the dilemma. How do you plead. Guilty as charged. Then he offers it to you.Did the outcome of your witnessing exceed your expectations or quickly transpired into an awkward moment?
If you are like the majority, you might find yourself closer to the latter. Articulating our central beliefs as a Christian is so much easier said than done. Coupled with the lack of opportunity to learn the tools and tactics and lack of motivation to share our Christian beliefs have seriously undermined our role as contagious Christians.
This is so true. There are four elements to consider in understanding the essence of the Gospel: God, Us, Christ, and You. Worse yet, the bible tell us in Romans that we never can do enough. But thankfully, Christianity is spelled differently. When we do that, He adopts us into His family, and begins to change us from the inside out. Then I explain the problem. And our sins have separated us from Him, and broken off the relationship.
And so we start doing all kinds of things to try to get back to Him, like being a helpful neighbor, paying our taxes, going to church, and giving money to charities. These signify our attempts to reach God that always fall short. At this point, I admit that the picture looks pretty bleak. In fact, He loves us so much that He did for us what we could never do for ourselves. He provided a bridge over which we can find His forgiveness and restore our relationship with Him.
He built it by coming to earth as one of us, and dying on the cross to pay the death penalty we owed. God wants us to move over to the other side. That simple act of trust and obedience results in our sins being pardoned and our debt being paid. This includes not only big sins, like rape and murder, but also stuff like moral missteps, likes, cruelty, insensitivity toward others, losing your temper, cheating, and self-centeredness. How about you?The following was compiled by Doug Nichols of Action International.

Though I write personally, from the heart, and tell stories of great courage and perspective, I must also present a case from Scripture and appeal to logic.
But remember this: you are a whole person, and the path to your heart travels through your mind. Truth matters. To touch us at the heart level-and to keep touching us over days, months, years, and decades—truth must work its way into our minds. In writing his magnificent story of redemption, God has revealed truths about himself, us, the world, goodness, evil, suffering, and Heaven and Hell.
Those truths God reveals to us teem with life. The blood of man and God flows through them. God speaks with passion, not indifference; he utters fascinating words, not dull ones. To come to grips with the problem of evil and suffering, you must do more than hear heart-wrenching stories about suffering people. He gives himself. He becomes the husband to the grieving widow Isaiah He becomes the comforter to the barren woman Isaiah He becomes the father of the orphaned psalm He becomes the bridegroom to the single person Isaiah He is the healer to the sick Exodus He is the wonderful counselor to the confused and depressed Isaiah Joni Eareckson Tada and Steve Estes [page 4].
In Sudan, millions, including children, have been murdered, raped, and enslaved. The Asian tsunami killed more thanpeople. Malaria causes more than two million fatalities annually, the majority of them African children. Around the world, some 26, children die every day; eighteen every minute.
Sermon: The Goodness of God - Psalm 145, 107
Pastor James Montgomery Boice had a clearer perspective. Should you pray for a miracle? My general impression is that the God who is able to do miracles—and He certainly can—is also able to keep you from getting the problem in the first place. If you think of God glorifying Himself in history and you say, where in all of history has God most glorified Himself?
God is in charge. When things like this come into our lives, they are not accidental. Everything He does is good… If God does something in your life, would you change it? One day when her mother took her shopping and reached out her hand, a clerk looked horrified.
Later, crying, the girl told her mother how embarrassed she was. Your room was an inferno. Flames were everywhere. I ran through the fire and wrapped my arms around you. Then I went back through the flames, my arms on fire. May we learn to see the problem of evil and suffering through new eyes. Moral evil comes in two forms—blatant evil that admits its hatred for goodness, and subtle evil that professes to love goodness while violating it. Leper praises God for her disease which brought her to Him.You might think of someone who never does anything wrong, who always does everything right.
You might think of someone who is very kind and generous. Think about it. Whenever you see movies or read books about Jesus, what color clothing is Jesus usually wearing? Usually, Jesus is presented as wearing white. Men back then wore clothes that were dyed with colors or left a natural looking tan. So, why do you think artists or movies almost always present Jesus wearing white clothes?
You always know the man in white is Jesus. Perhaps your answer to the above question was that white represents Jesus as being perfect because He never did any of the bad things called sin. White would definitely represent His purity. That white color also represents His goodness.
This was to show His disciples that He really was God. Jesus is the God-man who never sinned. The color white represents His goodness. And, God is good all the time. That means God allows nothing to happen to His children—to those who love Him—that is not for their good. God gives to His children only that which is good. G od is good all the timeand He is at work in our lives for good. But, you might ask, what about the tough things that happen to us? Someone gets very sick, loses a job, or has to move far away from family and friends.
Is God being good then? What must be the answer to that question? Our sermon ideas God's Goodness will help you preach a powerful message. This is a critical topic for Christians to understand. Whether we go through tragic times, remember difficult times, or know those who are going through the unimaginable, holding onto this truth that God is good can be an anchor for our souls in the storms of life. Prepare your messages about God's goodness with sermon outlines or an entire sermon series.
Hebrews But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Rewarder - one who pays wages misthos, wages, apo, back, didomi, to give, is used by metonymy in Heb. Ask any Christian if they believe that God is good and they would certainly say, well of course. But believing that He is good is not the only requirement in pleasing Him.
The Word we just read goes on to say, we must also believe that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. This sounds like Anyone who understands the Book of Romans will certainly understand the Bible. Anyone who does not will certainly go amiss on God's Plan.
We learn that the person who puts his faith in Christ has his sin question settled, and that there is no condemnation, no judgment, nothing ahead but glory for the child of God, so far as the salvation of his soul is concerned. Now we come to the 11th chapter. It starts with a great question. The word ''husband'' is of Anglo-Saxon origin and means ''band of the house'' or ''house band. But, a simple observing of the recent media outlets would seem to tell you that we aren't doing a very good job.
It seems like every time you turn on the television you are presented with a new good husband gone bad. It all started in with O. Simpson as a seemingly story book romance turned in to a gruesome murder.
Since then I believe this series will touch every person's heart and bring encouragement and strength. This I know: God is for me! This truth is immovable.
It is who God is and how God feels about you. Other people may forget you, ignore you, even work against you; but God is for you! If God has a calendar, your birthday is circled.
If there is a tree in Heaven, He's carved your name in the bark.In a dispatch in the press for September 30referring to the "holy images" throughout Poland, he the present pope says: "So many miracles have been performed by these images that surely Christians can trust a merciful God and believe in the resurrection of Poland.
In Psalm 78 the Psalmist says: "For they provoked him to anger. The fire consumed their young men. How different the real Peter from the pseudo-Peters down through the centuries!
After the healing of the lame man at the Temple gate, Peter ascribes to Christ and to Christ alone the miracle: "And his Christ's name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him Christ hath given him this perfect soundness.
A minister was passing a certain farm one day, when he noticed a fine rick of hay, just finished and ready for thatching. He said to the farmer who was standing by, "That's a very fine rick of hay.
Who made it? To his astonishment he saw that the rick, through a heavy gale, had capsized and fallen to the ground. He went to the farmer and condoled with him on his misfortune, and again asked, "Who made the rick? That's it! When things go well, we are apt to say, "I did it"; but when they go wrong, we say, "There were several of us.
Social reform has failed to counteract crime, politics is unmentionably decayed, big business cannot handle our economic collapse, legislation is helpless to restore honesty and integrity, mediation is no cure for industrial strife, trade agreements between nations and international conferences have been destined to the scrap heap.
To all of which may be added the unspeakable horror of Europe's predicament! Yes, materialism has been tried and found wanting. No materialistic agency has been able to stem the tide of the present disruption. Only the Church of God fully united can save the world, a world that has reached a crucial turning point. There is no solution to our perplexity in the mechanics of man. We must look to God for salvation. Everywhere, among thinking people, the cry is, "Back to the Church!
Less than one hundred years ago, Daniel Webster, one of America's greatest statesmen, uttered this solemn warning, "If we abide by the principles taught in the Bible, our country will go on prospering; but if we and our posterity neglect its instructions and authority, no man can tell how sudden a catastrophe may overwhelm us and bury all our glory in profound obscurity. We have been worshiping the Golden Calf. The results are seen all around us.
The world forgot Christ in the rush for money. The only god that many of us know seems to be the almighty dollar. There is a widespread spiritual ignorance and desecration of the Lord's Day. These form part of the religious background of the past decade. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting" Gal.
A friend says to me, "I have not time or room in my life for Christianity. If it were not so full!Despite his troubles, he said, "While God gives me strength, failure will not daunt me. When his body was found, his diary lay nearby. It bore the record of hunger, thirst, wounds, and loneliness. The last entry in his little book showed the struggle of his shaking hand as he tried to write legibly. It read, "I am overwhelmed with a sense of the goodness of God. Often I have heard people say, "How good God is!
We prayed that it would not rain for our church picnic, and look at the lovely weather! But God was also good when He allowed my sister, Betsie, to starve to death before my eyes in a German concentration camp. I remember one occasion when I was very discouraged there.
Everything around us was dark, and there was darkness in my heart. I remember telling Betsie that I thought God had forgotten us. Remember His Word: 'For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His steadfast love toward those who fear Him.
