I think apple throttles both CPU and GPU due to design issues: there obsession with the thinnest coolest looking product — which creates serious heat dissipation issues — thus the need for throttling to keep temperatures down.

Any Mac desktop or laptop with a thunderbolt 3 port can be graphics card upgraded using eGPU — external cases that hold full graphics cards — Mac OS X fully supports them. You can play SL and wonderfully.

I do it on my iMac 5k with the Not sure if anyone still checks these, but I am considering purchasing my first Mac. I just want to make sure the Mac will at least perform better than my current PC in gaming, because I have used nearly the same Mac at work for design and its not even close how much better it performs those tasks.

Bradley, I just purchased the same iMac you are looking at. By the way I upgraded the ram to the next step faster than Apple supplied. Got mine at Am. I bought the Radeon Pro 5K iMac inchose just the 3. Hey John, same question here, I hope someone will confirm us which one to use.

I would really happy if or GPU would be enough as I will edit okay 4K video footages but not longer than 5 mins or max 10 mins.

The is fine for editing video. These scores are related to 3D performance, not 2D video editing. Video editing takes very little GPU power compared to gaming. External storage on SSDs will give you the fastest editing capability.

So no, a X is not worth the extra money for video editing. Spend it on a faster CPU or external storage or education. Games look stunning on this screen, and the is much powerful yet it stays pretty cool even when rendering 3D scenes.

Also MacOs and memory management are far superior than Windows running nVidia barbecue grills. See the screenshot below:. Running Windows 10 Pro 64 bit version - installing the latest updates as I write this, but no previous update has resolved this issue. Ps: Bootcamp is also up to date, I have ran the Apple Update software several times and the only thing that isn't installed is iTunes and iCloud Photos, which I don't see how those could resolve a graphics card driver issue. I am not sure what a BC6 driver is, I have only what was automatically installed using Bootcamp when I installed Windows on the partition of my Mac. BC6 is Bootcamp 6 drivers which support W If Apple Software Update does not provide an update, you should stay with the current version. They are Apple modified versions in most cases. You can force the W10 versions, by modifying.

Are there specific issues that you are trying to resolve, other than just a number in the version field? I do some light gaming on BC, hence I wish to update to the newest driver - no issue or behaviour I am trying to solve by updating.

If I have upgraded the BC version is there no way to downgrade it so that I can keep upgrading graphics card software? If the only solution left is to play around with. Everything is working fine except the inability to upgrade the software. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question. Where can I get rx drivers for my Mac Pro ? Posted on Aug 23, PM. Currently you are running Leopard, or less. The best info I could find is that Sierra or better will support that. However, your Mac Pro doesn't support Sierra. I think you have to have a MacPro 4,1 or 5,1. Info on what MacPro you do have can be found under "About this Mac".

About the only way that card will run in your MacPro is if you update the firmware on it to make it "Act Like" a Mac pro 4,1 or 5,1, and figure out a way to get sierra running on an unsupported Mac Pro. There are ways to do that, I'm sure, but none that I know of. Here's a link to some info to maybe get that card working in your Mac Pro.

Your best bet would be to ask someone else. I do know that the works in the Mac Pro's for sure, at a slower speed however, but they do work. Your card, however, has drivers for Linux and 64 bit windows, but nothing for Mac.

I'd suggest saving up and buying a used Mac Pro 4,1 or 5,1 but I don't know how practical that idea is. Aug 23, PM. Aug 24, AM.

On the graphics card there is a tiny switch which optimizes it for either computing or gaming. I flipped the switch to gaming mode and it works really great now. Have yet to switch over to Mojave. June in Support. But disturbed video displayed on headset and "Your computer doesn't meet Rift's recommended specifications" message on Oculus Home. June If that tool said "VR Ready", it might not be so much issue. August Just picked it up and setup the Windows 10 boot camp on the computer. Drivers, software, and all are up to date but the Oculus App is indicating that the computer does not meet the minimum requirements to run Oculus. This could be a driver issue or a display port issue surrounding the thunderbolt 3.

At this time I am looking at a poorly built Thunderbolt 3 adapter, Boot Camp driver conflict, or Radeon driver conflict through a boot camp as my main culprits. If anyone has any insight please shoot it my way.
